This site, Cat Adoption South Carolina, is run by volunteers! We give up our time to help cats who through no fault of their own find themselves in need of a new home. Web hosting is  also donated by a volunteer.

Could you offer a loving home to a rescued cat or kitten?

Most of the cats featured here have had a ‘near death’ experience, having been rescued from Kill Shelters in South Carolina and beyond. The majority of the cats you’ll see here are boarding at Furry Friends Rescue Center in Clover, York County SC, right up near the border with North Carolina or at Furby’s Half Way House in Hodges, Greenwood County SC.

2011 finds the US economy in pretty bad shape and it’s getting harder to find loving homes for rescue cats. A number of people ‘met’ on Facebook, trying to save cats facing euthanasia.  Most of us are involved in other cat rescue work / volunteering.

Contrary to what you may think the kitties featured in Cat Adoption South Carolina are mostly ex-pets. Many are turned into shelters as ‘strays’ by their owners. We also believe that many of cats trapped by ACs are also ex pets because they were friendly when trapped. All the kitties here unless specified otherwise are friendly, highly adoptable pets with no issues to speak of. A minority are classed as special needs.

Too many cat lovers are still buying cats and kittens out of newspapers or on the internet, from people who can at best be described as back street breeders. Buying a cat or kitten privately from non registered breeders exposes you to great risk. This type of operation is run for greed, and such breeders do not have your best interests at heart or the cats.

It is more ethical and safer to look for cats in cat rescue establishments and shelters where rescues will do their best to match your lifestyle and preferences with available cats and kittens.

Cats For Adoption

Cat Adoption South Carolina is not a pet shop. Rescues will do their best to match your requirements to the current intake of cats, unless you see a cat that specifically catches your eye. However rescues will steer you to cats that suit your circumstances and a vet reference taken where possible. First time adopters are welcome. An adoption fee is payable to the individual rescue(r) for each cat and kitten. This covers some of the rescues costs for upkeep, vetting and neutering or spaying as applicable.

The advantage of adopting a cat from a no kill rescue is that should your circumstances change or the cat not settle for whatever reason, it is returned to the rescue.

Please note that Cat Adoption South Carolina is NOT a rescue. If you are a member of the public with a cat to rehome please contact your local rescues and shelters. If you are likely to hand your cat into a kill shelter please find it within your heart to at least sponsor you own cat. This will make it more likely your cat will adopted or rescued rather than put to sleep.
