There are a number of maine coon mix or maine coon type cats available for adoption from Furby’s Half Way House in Hodges, Greenwood County (SC 29653). Aren’t these cats adorable? It is one of the shaming features of the American shelter system so that many of the country’s only indigenous cat breed end up in shelters.
These stunning cats have all been given up to shelters because of behaviour issues. Most are young cats under 2 years of age, although Misty is slightly older at 9 years of age.
Typically adult cats are turned into shelters because the owners either have too many cats or are facing a life change, usually a change of housing. How people can simply turn in their own pets is beyond us, as cat ownership implies a lifetime commitment. Really, these owners don’t deserve their cats.
The maine coon mix cats for adoption at Hodges have a wide range of personalities. Take Misty. He’s a quiet boy who would suit an adult only home with no children. Misty could best be described as a low maintenance cat. He’s not really interested in sitting on your lap. However its likely that rescue / foster doesn’t fit in with Misty’s quiet demeanor, so an only pet home or a home with another quiet cat is tought, away from the hustle and bustle of a hectic family home.
Sammy on the other hand is a playful young cat who enjoys keeping his humans company and loves toys – especially anything he can bat or swat with his paw. Sammy would make a loving family pet in a home with older children or someone who would like a ‘people cat’.
All the cats and kittens available are litter trained, adn combo tested for FIV/Felv.
